The Magic: The Gathering Marvel-themed set, Darkhold Destinies, is scheduled for release on April 9, 2027. This is the third Marvel series following the Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes sets, featuring an original story centered around Marvel characters.
In the story, Dormammu and Hela use the Darkhold to invade the multiverse, while heroes like Doctor Strange and Thor attempt to stop them. Wizards of the Coast crafts this narrative within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, providing room for artistic reinterpretation of Marvel characters.
The set's spellcasting themes are divided into Arcane, Divine, and Dark, corresponding to Doctor Strange's side, Asgardian characters, and villains respectively; Ghost Rider will also wield dark magic. The new set focuses on instants, sorceries, and special enchantments. The long-unused Arcane subtype will return, but the "splice onto Arcane" mechanic will not.
Products include booster packs, Collector Boosters, bundles, and four Commander decks, each with a foil collector's edition. Wizards of the Coast plans to first reveal the story through a comic in collaboration with Image Comics in February, followed by another comic closer to the April 2027 release.
