Japanese video platform NicoNico has confirmed it will not release an app for the Nintendo Switch 2, citing development policies and various requirements. Its app on the original Switch is scheduled to cease operations on March 31, 2027. As the legacy app approaches discontinuation, users who had hoped for its arrival on the successor console have now received a definitive answer.
The Nintendo Switch 2 currently has no official YouTube app or any video streaming apps. NicoNico's decision has once again brought attention to the issue of video apps on the new console.
Nintenderos suggests a possibility: Nintendo's requirements for such apps on new consoles may be stricter than during the original Switch era. There is currently no confirmation from Nintendo that the requirements have tightened. What is clear is that NicoNico has no plans to release a version for Switch 2, and the original Switch version will be discontinued on March 31, 2027.
