Carrie Coon has not yet received an offer for the next Ghostbusters movie. She stated that she hasn't been in touch with the franchise's creative team for some time, and scheduling conflicts among participants are the main obstacle to advancing the sequel.
Speaking about the sequel's progress during the 2026 BFI London Film Festival, Coon said that Jason Reitman had ideas long ago, but she was unclear about his current specific plans. Coon has been part of the franchise since 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, playing the role of Callie Spengler.
Plans for the next film were previously confirmed, but there has been little news on progress since. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire left room for the story to continue; the film grossed just under $202 million worldwide, and its commercial performance has drawn attention to whether a sequel can move forward quickly.
Other projects in the franchise are still moving forward: the Netflix animated series Ghostbusters: Night Shift is scheduled to launch in 2027, and an animated film is also in development. The filming schedule for the next live-action movie is still awaiting further updates.
