James Gunn confirmed that Matt Hagen, the protagonist of the film Clayface, will appear in future DC Universe projects. He discussed this arrangement during an interview with Cinemex at the film's premiere event but did not announce the project or timing for the character's next appearance.
Gunn stated that the DC Universe can accommodate different types of stories and connect them at certain points. The shape-shifting Matt Hagen previously appeared in Season 1 of the animated series Creature Commandos; Gunn has previously confirmed that the character in the animation and the film is the same person.
Whether the character will return for Season 2 of Creature Commandos or appear in future Batman-related films remains purely speculative. James Watkins, director of Clayface, has mentioned that Gotham City naturally carries Batman's shadow, but this does not confirm Batman's appearance in the film.
Clayface is scheduled for theatrical release on October 23. Early audience reactions after the premiere describe the film as having strong body horror elements; Gunn has not yet revealed how Matt Hagen will appear in the DC Universe going forward.
