According to VGC, Ubisoft plans to close the RedLynx studio and downsize Ubisoft Singapore. Ubisoft has been evaluating its studios, considering their current projects and whether they can continue operations in the future.
It is reported that after evaluating the RedLynx studio in Finland, Ubisoft believes that since the studio currently has no new projects in development and cannot maintain sustainable operations through scaling alone, it will propose closing the studio, affecting approximately 52 employees.
This proposal will enter into change negotiation procedures. In Finland, companies employing at least 50 employees must initiate discussions between employers and employees if they make decisions that affect employees' positions.
As for Ubisoft Singapore, after considering its future responsibilities and the tasks it will undertake in subsequent work, Ubisoft plans to restructure and lay off staff at the studio to enable more sustainable operations in the future. This will result in 70 job losses.
RedLynx was founded in Helsinki, Finland, in 2000 and is best known for the Trials series. The series initially launched on web browsers before releasing PC and console versions. The studio achieved breakthrough success with the Xbox Live Arcade game Trials HD, leading Ubisoft to acquire the studio in 2011.
Since then, five more games have been released in the series: Trials Evolution, Trials Frontier, Trials Fusion, Trials of the Blood Dragon, and Trials Rising. However, since the release of Rising in 2019, the studio has released fewer titles.
In 2020, RedLynx collaborated with Massive Entertainment to bring Tom Clancy's The Division 2 to Google's cloud gaming platform, Stadia. Afterwards, it developed the mobile game Gwen’s Getaway. The game had a limited release in 2023 but shut down in December 2024. The studio also assisted Massive Entertainment in developing the Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws.
Previously, Ubisoft announced that, as part of a restructuring proposal, it would lay off up to 60 employees at RedLynx. According to the proposal, the studio's focus would shift from multi-platform game development to "focusing on small screens," i.e., mobile games, which included two unannounced mobile games reportedly being led by the studio at the time.
Ubisoft Singapore was founded by Ubisoft in 2008 with the aim of establishing a game production network in Southeast Asia.
The studio has supported the development of most Assassin's Creed games released to date and led the development of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Remastered and Skull and Bones.
