Epic Plans to Bring Fortnite to Linux via New Launcher, Anti-Cheat Adaptation Still Needed

Epic plans to bring Fortnite to Linux via the new Epic Games Launcher. A preview version of the launcher has been released for Linux for the first time, but the game cannot currently run on the platform, as completing the adaptation of the anti-cheat system is a key prerequisite.

Epic stated that it is rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat and discussing security requirements with Linux distribution maintainers. The company will only offer Fortnite through its launcher once the solution can work with a sufficient number of distribution maintainers. These improvements will also be made available to other developers in the future, helping them bring their games to Linux players.

Easy Anti-Cheat already supports Linux, but Fortnite has not yet supported the platform due to concerns about combating cheating across various kernel configurations. Epic plans to first test the new Linux anti-cheat solution in Fortnite, and there is currently no release schedule for a Linux version of the game.

Epic is also exploring compatibility with SteamOS, which is based on Linux, but has stated that there are no plans to bring Fortnite to the Steam store. The Steam Deck currently lacks the features required for the new anti-cheat solution, and Epic is in discussions with Valve regarding this issue.
