The unofficial project LAS Recomp has been released online, aiming to run the 2019 Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening as a native application on Windows, macOS, and Linux. According to the project description, it achieves porting through static recompilation of Switch code, eliminating the need for an emulator.
Using this project requires players to provide their own dumped game files; if Switch system fonts are involved, they must also be extracted from the user's own hardware. The project offers a launch interface, an in-game menu, keyboard and controller key mapping, and displays corresponding button icons based on the controller type.
In terms of visuals, players can remove the original aspect ratio restrictions to see more of the island in wider or taller windows while preserving the layout of houses and dungeons; they can also continue using the original 16:9 aspect ratio. Other optional features include 360-degree movement, removal of blur effects, and adjustment of internal rendering resolution. The macOS version supports upscaling with Apple MetalFX.
The project also adds randomization elements, including shuffling items and trading quests, randomly adjusting environments and music, and rearranging dungeon rooms. This feature is currently experimental and has known issues. LAS Recomp is a fan project and not an official PC release by Nintendo.
