Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott estimates that Housemarque's Saros sold approximately 522,000 copies, generating total revenue of around $40.4 million. According to the comparison method used in the report, this revenue is about 20% lower than the estimated revenue for Returnal during its first six months on the market.
Elliott estimated that Returnal sold approximately 649,000 copies and generated around $50.5 million in revenue within its first six months on the market. The sales and revenue figures for both games are analyst estimates, not official sales data released by Sony or financial disclosures from Housemarque.
Elliott believes that the launch environments of the two games may be one reason for the difference. Returnal was released less than six months after the PS5 launch, when there were limited choices for major exclusive titles on the console; the game also showcased the then-new DualSense and spatial audio features.
In contrast, Elliott believes that Saros faces a more crowded gaming market, with players already having richer PS5 game libraries. Titles like Resident Evil: Requiem and Red Desert are also competing for player attention during the same period. It remains unclear how these estimates will affect Housemarque's future plans.
