On October 6, when the phone arrived at a logistics park in Shiyan but had not yet been sorted to individual courier stations, the criminals remotely placed an order, hiring a "runner" rider to pick up the phone from the logistics park using the tracking number.

During this period, the courier called Ms. Wang to verify the pickup situation. However, Ms. Wang was asleep at the time and hung up without paying close attention. Misinterpreting this as consent for someone else to pick up the package, the courier failed to strictly verify the identity of the pickup person and handed the phone directly to a "runner" rider.

It wasn't until noon that day that Ms. Wang noticed the shopping platform showed the package as "delivered," prompting her to contact the courier for clarification. Upon investigation, the courier discovered the anomaly and promptly reported it to the police.

Surprisingly,After fraudulently claiming the phone, the criminals did not ship it directly. Instead, they hired five local "runner" riders to transfer the phone using a relay method.

These riders did not interact or communicate with each other; they simply followed the online order instructions, sequentially leaving the package at designated locations such as hotel reception desks.

After being passed through multiple hands, the phone eventually reached a courier station on Dongfeng Avenue and was packaged for shipment out of town. Upon receiving the report, the police launched an overnight investigation, finally identifying the tracking number by 4 a.m.

At that time, the phone had already left Shiyan and arrived at the Wujiashan station in Wuhan, awaiting transfer. The police immediately contacted the courier company to intercept it, successfully stopping the phone during transit.

On the afternoon of October 7, the intercepted phone was returned to Shiyan. The police went to the courier station to retrieve the package and handed it back to Ms. Wang in person.

Official reminders advise against posting screenshots containing order numbers, tracking numbers, pickup codes, or other personal information on social media platforms like WeChat Moments or short video apps to prevent personal data leaks.

When receiving a call from the courier to verify pickup information, carefully confirm the details. For valuable items, try to sign for them in person. If you need to authorize someone else to pick up the package, make sure to inform the courier in advance.
