"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" Will Not Launch on XGP, Expected to Join Late Next Year

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. The game will not be included in XGP at launch, so subscribers wishing to play it upon release must purchase the base game separately.

《使命召唤:现代战争4》首发不进XGP 预计明年底加入

Earlier this year, Microsoft adjusted its Xbox Game Pass (XGP) strategy: first-party titles will still launch day-one on the service, but future Call of Duty releases will no longer be available at launch for XGP Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Instead, new titles will follow a timed exclusivity window, joining the subscription library approximately one year after release. According to the official timeline, Modern Warfare 4 is not expected to arrive until the 2027 holiday season.

This strategic change coincides with a reduction in XGP subscription prices. Older Call of Duty titles already in the XGP library will not be removed, and Microsoft plans to continue adding previous entries from the series to the subscription catalog in the future.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will also be available on Switch 2, marking the series' return to Nintendo consoles for the first time since 2013. It is a standalone title and does not require ownership of other Call of Duty games to play.
