Valve has launched a beta test for "Achievement Collections" on Steam. Developers can group related achievements together, allowing players to view completion progress for each group separately. For games that continuously receive updates, expansions, and seasonal achievements, this feature aims to make existing achievements easier to find and reduce the impact of new achievements on the completion statistics of players who have already finished the game.
Developers can create collections based on criteria such as single-player, multiplayer, or character classes. When a player completes a set, Steam records the completion status and displays a trophy on their profile; if new achievements are added to the collection later, the original progress will be preserved.
The base game achievement collection is available to all players, while DLC collections only track players who own the corresponding expansion content. Players who have not purchased the DLC will not have their completion statistics affected by these exclusive achievements. Developers can also archive individual or entire achievement sets for seasonal, holiday, or other time-limited content; achievements already unlocked by players will remain in their profiles.
The new achievements page centrally displays overall progress and progress for each group, supports searching by collection and unlock status, and allows comparison with up to three friends. Currently, this beta test is open to both players and developers.
