Bit Reactor has released an update for Star Wars: Squad Zero, adding custom campaign rules such as injuries and permadeath. Players must set these options when starting a new campaign; they cannot be enabled mid-way through an existing save.
The permadeath rules offer various settings: characters can permanently die after sustaining one, two, or three injuries; players can also choose a fixed 20% chance of permanent death when a character falls, or increase this probability by 20% with each injury. Bit Reactor stated that these rules respond to player feedback requesting higher difficulty and adjustments to the injury and permadeath mechanics, and recommends that players try the base difficulty first.
The update also allows players to adjust the rate at which health increases with Focus Points, the unlock nodes for Bond rewards, and the rules for area attacks, assists, and advantage on certain abilities. Other tactical options include allowing assist shots to miss, enabling enemy critical hits, and capping hit chance at no more than 99%; players can also restrict reconfiguration of talents, class specializations, weapons, and recruitment.
This patch also fixes issues including those related to the Vigilance ability, and adjusts certain character and unit abilities. The team noted that facility upgrades were underused, so they reduced the cost of several upgrades. Recruitment costs no longer increase with progress and are now fixed at 100 points per recruit.
