The Cities: Skylines II - Parks & Recreation DLC is scheduled for release in Q4 2026. Players will be able to build amusement parks, zoos, city parks, or nature reserves around their communities. Associated leisure system changes are also planned for the base game, making them available to players who do not purchase the DLC.
In a developer diary, Iceflake Studios explained that players can freely combine buildings, facilities, and attractions. Park types are not predetermined by zones; instead, the actual placement of content will influence how citizens use these spaces.
Currently, citizens primarily choose destinations based on desired activities and distance, rarely adjusting their plans once decided. The new design will reduce the decisive role of distance, allowing factors like crowding, facility status, and quality to influence their choices. Once inside a park, citizens may also change their plans based on queue lengths, the availability of similar nearby facilities, and walking distances.
The development team also aims to make citizen behavior in public spaces more visible, including queuing, riding attractions, and watching animals, while attempting to have them interact with suitable props along the way. These mechanics are still in development, so it's not certain that all props will feature interactive behaviors. The DLC will add buildable leisure venues, while foundational changes to leisure choices and citizen behavior are planned for the base game.
