The fan project Halo 64 is now playable on the Nintendo 64, bringing some of Halo: Combat Evolved's multiplayer content to the platform with support for up to four-player split-screen. The current version does not include a single-player campaign and is not a complete port of the original game.
The project supports all 13 multiplayer maps from the original game, offering modes such as Team Slayer and Capture the Flag. Up to eight bots can join matches, with four difficulty levels available. Their random names are drawn from a list of approximately 300 characters associated with Nintendo 64-era titles.
In addition to standard matches, Halo 64 offers a Firefight mode centered around waves of enemies. The project supports the Nintendo 64 Rumble Pak, providing controller vibration feedback during gameplay.
Running this project requires the Nintendo 64's 8MB Expansion Pak and a copy of the original Xbox game Halo: Combat Evolved. The installation process involves using the command prompt, so players unfamiliar with these operations may need to spend some time completing the setup.
