Dan Houser explained why Rockstar's PlayStation-exclusive title, Agent, was never released: two or three teams separately attempted development but were unable to integrate their work into a cohesive game. Announced in 2009, this open-world spy thriller never saw the light of day and never had a confirmed release date.
At E3 2009, Sony announced a partnership with Rockstar to develop Agent, with Rockstar founders Sam Houser and Dan Houser overseeing the project. That same year, then-Take-Two president Ben Feder expressed the company's ambition to make it a title on par with the Grand Theft Auto series.
In an interview with IGN, Dan Houser stated that while the teams involved each produced solid components, the challenge lay in integrating them. He noted that while spy films can seamlessly transport audiences around the world, this frequent location-hopping approach is difficult to implement effectively in open-world games. The team explored various solutions but never found a suitable one.
