Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 will bid farewell to the main cast of the previous season, shifting focus to four new protagonists in Night City. Creator and showrunner Bartosz Sztybor stated that despite constant viewer requests for David's return, he believed from the start that the sequel needed to tell a different story.
Sztybor said he receives dozens of private messages every day hoping for David's return, feeling external pressure as well. However, he believes that even if viewers want to see David again, creating content based solely on those expectations might disappoint them.
The four protagonists of the new season are Weak Kingsley, an edgerunner gradually losing power; Roman, a photography enthusiast; D., a nomad; and Talia, who has undergone cybernetic enhancements. Sztybor admitted that moving away from the characters that made the first season popular put pressure on him, even causing nightmares; however, he is proud of this decision, and animation studio Studio Trigger supported the team in maintaining a direction different from the first season.
Season 2 has received positive early feedback so far, though these reactions are still from before its release. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 20.
