Michał Nowakowski, Co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, revealed that the Cyberpunk 2077 film will not be a direct adaptation of the game's plot. The project will be set in the cyberpunk world but tell a story different from that of the game.
Nowakowski explicitly stated that the company does not wish to directly adapt the game into a film, nor will it provide a one-to-one recreation of Cyberpunk 2077's story. The currently revealed direction indicates that the film will utilize the game's world but feature an original plot.
This film collaboration emerged after the expiration of the original contract between CD Projekt Red and Anonymous Content. Subsequently, CD Projekt Red partnered with Paramount to continue advancing the cyberpunk-themed film project.
Information disclosed in early October this year revealed that Paramount, CD Projekt Red, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of the live-action Transformers series, will jointly participate in the project. The confirmed creative principle at this stage is to retain the cyberpunk world setting without replicating the story of Cyberpunk 2077.
