CD Projekt Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film will not be a direct adaptation of the game, nor will it replicate the original plot one-to-one. Instead, the film will tell a different story set within the Cyberpunk world.
Nowakowski stated that CD Projekt's previous contract with Anonymous Content has expired. During this period, the company seized the opportunity to collaborate with Paramount Pictures, thus deciding to advance this live-action project in a new format.
According to the current direction, while the film will adopt the basic settings and worldview of the game, it will not directly transpose V's existing experiences onto the screen. This approach is similar to other productions like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Resident Evil, which develop new stories based on the original backdrop.
The project is still in its early stages, with no release date, cast, or specific story details announced yet. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is scheduled to launch on Netflix on October 20, but it is a separate project from this live-action film.
