The recently released launch trailer for GTA VI does not exhibit the long-standing animation stutter associated with the RAGE engine. Even with lateral camera pans, which tend to expose such jerkiness, character animations and camera movements maintained a consistent rhythm. However, this change has not yet been officially confirmed.
This visual issue is easily mistaken for frame rate drops. It manifests as character animations and camera movements occasionally advancing at an uneven pace, creating a slight jerkiness reminiscent of stop-motion animation. This phenomenon may be related to the RAGE engine, which has affected Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V, and the Red Dead Redemption series since GTA IV.
Digital Foundry's analysis noted that stuttering-like issues were still observable in multiple previously released trailers for GTA VI, including the extended gameplay showcase. The performance of the latest release trailer therefore raises the possibility that Rockstar may have already implemented relevant fixes.
Another possibility is that the developers only selected scenes without stuttering for the trailer. However, previous promotional videos did not deliberately avoid this phenomenon. The development team is still making adjustments to the game close to its release, so whether the issue has been resolved in the final version remains to be verified after launch.
