The CRKD Nitro Deck 2 improves the grip experience for the Switch 2 in handheld mode and adds capacitive joysticks with instantly adjustable resistance. However, intense vibration, bulky size, and a high price tag clearly detract from the overall experience.
This wrap-around controller was initially announced in December 2025. After several delays, it underwent about two weeks of hands-on testing. Its grips conform better to the palm's curve, alleviating discomfort caused by the flat back of Joy-Cons; the telescoping structure and rear locking mechanism also make installing the Switch 2 more straightforward than with the first generation.
The two CaptiStick capacitive joysticks allow resistance adjustment via an outer ring knob, enabling players to fine-tune control precision for genres like platformers and racing games. The device also features remappable back buttons, replaceable D-pads, and a stand, along with app connectivity. When equipped with the included center module, it can function as a Pro Controller-style gamepad; a wired adapter can connect the two USB-C ports, eliminating the need for Bluetooth pairing.
Its default vibration is strong and the sound is noticeable, requiring manual adjustment to lower levels. The unit also doesn't fit into the reviewer's usual Switch 2 protective case, so users may need to purchase a dedicated hard shell case priced at $39.99 or £34.99. In tabletop mode, this controller, which is nearly the size of a handheld console, can also strain the wrists.
The CRKD Nitro Deck 2 is priced at $99.99 or £89.99, significantly higher than the first generation. Its comfort and adjustable controls make it better suited for players who frequently use handheld mode, have a sufficient budget, and dislike the feel of Joy-Cons.
