Nicolas Cage and Antonio Banderas to Star in True Detective Season 5

Nicolas Cage previously broke the news at New York Comic Con, and it has now been officially confirmed that he will co-star with Antonio Banderas in True Detective Season 5.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cage will play Henry Logan, and Banderas will portray Ray Garcia. Plot details remain under wraps, but the story is known to be set in Jamaica Bay, New York. Issa López, creator of True Detective: Night Country, will return to helm this season, which will have some narrative connections to Season 4.

"All the events that took place in Ennis, Alaska, and the local characters will be significantly connected to the storyline of the new season," Lopez stated in a previous interview with the New York Post. Starring Jodie Foster, Kali Reis, Finn Bennett, and John Hawkes, True Detective: Night Country was a major hit, leading the director to sign an overall deal with HBO.

Cage revealed this news at a packed event during New York Comic Con, where he also discussed the cancellation of the Prime Video series Spider-Man Noir. He told the audience that although the show was canceled, he would soon have a new series to share with everyone.

"I might star in a season of True Detective next." Cage's announcement drew enthusiastic cheers and applause from the audience. He jokingly added, "It should be fine if I break the news first, right?"

True Detective Season 5 will undoubtedly have its own subtitle. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with an expected release in late 2028 or early 2029.
