You may never have noticed it, but the vast majority of Rockstar's titles—including Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V, and the Red Dead Redemption series—have suffered from a subtle yet persistent visual bug. Based on early trailers and gameplay demos, GTA 6 initially seemed no exception, but the game's latest trailer shows no trace of this issue whatsoever.
The issue lies in animation stutter. Character animations and camera movements sometimes proceed at inconsistent rates, causing the visuals to jerk and stutter, giving the game an unintentional stop-motion effect. If you notice this problem, you might mistake it for frame rate drops, but the root cause appears to stem from the underlying RAGE engine, which has powered Rockstar's games since the era of GTA IV.
According to Digital Foundry, this issue was present in all previously released trailers for GTA 6, including the extended gameplay demo. The only exception is the recently released launch trailer, which is completely free of noticeable animation stutter. This is particularly notable given that the trailer features numerous panning shots, a type of scene where such stuttering is typically most apparent.
It's possible that this trailer simply selected clips without animation stutter, but considering Rockstar never deliberately hid this issue in any previous preview content, this seems unlikely. After all, the development team has clearly stated that they were still fine-tuning and optimizing the game right up until the final moment before launch.
