Activision stated that Nintendo hopes to expand its audience with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This title will be the first in the series to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring full functionality and cross-platform play support.
Activision's Marketing Director, Tyler Bahl, stated that Activision and Nintendo are rebuilding their relationship, with Nintendo fully committed and joint marketing campaigns already underway. According to Bahl's summary of the partnership's goals, Nintendo aims to include first-person shooters in its lineup to extend the age range of its existing audience and reach a broader player base.
Bahl also linked this direction to the previous stagnation in Nintendo console sales growth and the need to expand content offerings. These remarks reflect Activision management's explanation of the partnership's objectives, rather than an official corporate strategy announced by Nintendo itself.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2 versions launching on the same day. In addition to cross-platform play, the Switch 2 version will support cross-progression and mouse controls.
