GTA 6 Receives CERO Z Rating in Japan; Content Changes Not Yet Announced

The Japanese version of GTA VI has been confirmed as CERO Z, restricted to players aged 18 and older. However, officials have not yet announced whether there will be content differences between the Japanese and overseas versions, nor have they confirmed any cuts or modifications.

The Japanese PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store product pages have already updated the relevant ratings. The content icons listed on the pages are "Crime" and "Violence," same as in Grand Theft Auto V. GTA VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026. The region had previously displayed "Rating Pending," and the launch trailer released on October 15 did not show the final rating.

Rating information for North America and Europe appeared around October 2. The North American ESRB rated the game M (Mature), suitable for ages 17 and up; the European PEGI rating is 18. The rating reasons involve blood and gore, intense violence, and strong sexual content, while classification data from Australia and New Zealand also suggests the game contains sexual depictions.

The Japanese version of Grand Theft Auto V previously adjusted sexual scenes and removed some brutal depictions, so attention remains on whether this title will undergo similar treatment. However, neither the CERO Z rating nor the precedent set by the previous game is sufficient to prove that the Japanese version of GTA VI will definitely have cuts; specific details still await official announcement.
