After 13 years of deep involvement in the Dying Light project, Tymon Smektala has taken on the role of Executive Director at Broken Mirror Games, focusing on discovering new top-tier talent in the horror game sector—he states that this talent could even become the "next Hideo Kojima."
"If I could truly find such a creator, I would feel very satisfied and consider this work highly valuable," Smektala said in an interview with GamesRadar+, joined by Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno. "I fully believe we can discover such a game creator: they might be working on small projects, but we can see their strong creative vision. With our support, this developer can continue to grow, hone their skills, and absorb our development expertise—after all, we have accumulated profound professional experience in horror game production. This creator could even become the next Hideo Kojima. After all, why not?"
This may sound ambitious, but Smektala has a track record to back it up. During his 13 years at Techland working on Dying Light, he served as the series director for three of those years. The series brought new challenges to the open-world survival horror genre with its pioneering day-night cycle mechanism and successfully ranked among the best zombie games of all time. Additionally, Bloober Team's publishing subsidiary is already intensively developing several upcoming horror games.
From the deep asymmetric multiplayer gameplay of Saw: Origins to the Switch 2 exclusive Onyx, which centers on the core concept of "bringing fear back into your hands" (a statement not meant lightly), Tymon Smektala is passionately exploring new creative directions in the vast and tense field of horror games.
"Our goal is to create the next Longlegs, the next Backrooms, the next Weapons-level work." He listed several popular horror films from this year—one of which was created by a content creator—all of which "offered new interpretations of the horror genre, adding unique freshness to the category. This is roughly our highest vision: to discover the next generation of horror game creators, allowing them to complement Broken Mirror Games' strengths and jointly expand our creative landscape."
"It's not just about pure entertainment or simply striving to be different. Behind these appearances lies a deeper core," Babieno stated. "The best horror works always respond in some way to the various questions arising in society, because people always harbor fears about certain things. That is why I believe there are many content creators who can approach the horror genre from different perspectives, and we are willing to be their support."
