Pokémon Developer Game Freak Halts Updates for 'Loop Beast', Ending Major Content Support

"Loop Beast" hasn't been out for long, having only officially launched this August, but Pokémon series developer Game Freak appears ready to halt further updates for this action RPG.

The studio confirmed this news in a new announcement on X (formerly Twitter), first thanking players for their attention and support of "Loop Beast." The development team then explained that after releasing the next scheduled patch on October 19, the post-launch update cycle for the game would "come to an end."

Unfortunately, this means there will be no more frequent updates or major version patches going forward, although players can still submit urgent feedback.

In other words, Game Freak put an end to development on "Loop Beast" just two months after its release. Given the disastrous reception this action RPG received at launch, I'm not particularly surprised by this outcome.

In fact, the game's director publicly apologized, expressing his "sincere regrets" for failing to deliver a "sufficiently enjoyable gaming experience." Prior to this statement, the game had received only "Mixed" reviews from both media and players.

Players have been vocal in their criticism of "Loop Beast," labeling it as another "terrible and absurd" new IP from Game Freak. They've complained about its clunky combat mechanics and sluggish pacing—issues the development team had explicitly promised to fix.

Although the developers did push out several updates, with the latest patch addressing some of the core pain points mentioned in reviews, the game's rating has never significantly rebounded. A quick glance at its Steam page confirms this.

Currently, the overall Steam reviews remain "Mixed." Even when filtering by recent reviews, it's only "Mostly Positive," which is hardly an ideal performance.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean Game Freak stopped updates due to poor reviews. The studio hasn't specified the exact reasons for ending development on this action RPG, despite it being a relatively new release this year.

I suppose that unless the developers come forward with an explanation themselves, no one will know the real reason behind this decision.
