Developer danielblnc has released version 0.8.0 of the unofficial project DLSS-NR-on-AMD, adding several modern DLSS features to AMD Radeon graphics cards based on RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 architectures, including super resolution, ray reconstruction, frame generation, and up to 4x multi-frame generation. The project was initially used to run DLSS 5 neural rendering.
Ray reconstruction uses neural networks to replace traditional ray tracing denoising solutions, reconstructing higher-quality effects. The developer stated that the project does not simply convert NVIDIA runtime instructions but instead implements its own neural network, including HIP cores tailored for AMD, memory organization, and game integration.
Version 0.8.0 also adds the NeuralHub interface, which can be used to import DLLs, discover games, and configure compatible DirectX 12 titles. The project does not distribute NVIDIA's proprietary libraries, so users must provide their own DLSS DLL files. Requirements include Windows 11 and AMD Adrenalin driver version 26.1.1 or newer; frame generation currently requires spoofing the GPU identifier, and the game must provide the necessary input data.
A community tester ran Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p with maximum settings and path tracing using a Radeon RX 9070 XT and Ryzen 7 9700X, reporting no performance loss after enabling ray reconstruction. However, this is just a single configuration test, and results may vary significantly for other users.
RDNA 2 support is currently still in the experimental stage. There is no uniform guarantee for the project's overall compatibility, image quality, and performance; actual results depend on specific hardware configurations and game support.
