Bloober Team aims to release physical editions of its games for as long as conditions allow. CEO Piotr Babieno believes that boxed and collector’s editions do more than just deliver game content; they foster an emotional connection between players, the work, and the development team that digital purchases cannot fully replicate.
Babieno acknowledged that digital distribution is more convenient, cost-effective, and potentially more profitable. However, both he and Executive Director Tymon Smektała are avid game collectors, so the company still hopes to continue releasing physical editions whenever possible.
He also noted that while modern games continue to push resolutions, lighting, and audio specifications, these upgrades do not necessarily make gameplay more engaging. The team aims to look beyond visuals and sound, exploring new ways to evoke feelings and interaction.
This philosophy also ties into Onyx: The Dark Collective, a 2D horror game developed by subsidiary Broken Mirror Games. Despite its 2D design, the title features 3D visuals and is currently being developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Bloober Team’s previous release, the Silent Hill 2 remake, launched on PC and PlayStation 5 with a full disc version available. The studio is also working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, but has yet to announce a release date or confirm whether it will receive a physical edition.
