1998 PS1 Business Simulation Game 'Drugstore' Launches on PS5 and Switch 2

The PS1 business simulation game "Pharmacy," released in 1998, has now been ported to PS5 and Switch 2, available via PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop. Players in North America and Europe can purchase the title from local stores for the first time, but this version does not include English or other Western languages; all text remains in Japanese.

"Pharmacy" was originally released only in Japan by Human Entertainment as a spin-off of the "Convenience Store" series. This re-release is handled by Hamster Corporation, known for long-term retro game re-releases, and is a direct port of the original rather than a remake or a newly localized version.

The game was relatively obscure even at launch, receiving lukewarm critical and commercial responses, which partly explains why it never entered Western markets previously. While Hamster typically retains existing English text for games that already have it, modern ports of older titles rarely add new translations if none existed before.

Feedback under the trailer reflects mixed attitudes: retro gaming enthusiasts are excited about the game's return, while others criticize the lack of localization. Since business simulation gameplay relies less on real-time action compared to some early 3D genres, analysts suggest the title still holds playable merit.
