Diablo IV's loot-grinding gameplay on the Switch 2 pairs well with its handheld form factor, offering comfortable controls in both Docked and Handheld modes. However, the performance target of max 40 FPS and the always-online requirement limit its portability experience.
The game is primarily designed for controller input, and the Switch 2 version features a clean and organized interface. Although the text is slightly smaller than in some other titles on the platform, testers found it did not significantly hinder readability. Lying down while repeatedly clearing enemies, sorting gear, and adjusting build strategies felt relatively relaxed overall.
This version supports cross-platform multiplayer and progress synchronization, allowing players to continue using their save data from other platforms. However, ownership of the base game and expansion content is not shared across platforms. The Quality Priority mode targets 30 FPS, while the Performance Priority mode targets a maximum of 40 FPS; 60 FPS is not supported, and occasional stuttering may be experienced during gameplay.
The always-online design is the main limitation for portable play. Putting the console into sleep mode or experiencing Wi-Fi interruptions during gameplay can cause disconnections from the server, requiring some quests to be redone. Therefore, this version is better suited for loot grinding in Handheld mode at home, rather than true on-the-go gaming. New players should also pay attention to the initial story state selection to avoid starting from later content and encountering spoilers.
