Player LTSharpe has created an open-source performance mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. According to the author's published test results, installing the mod boosted average frame rates by over 40% in two test scenarios and also reduced long-duration stutters.
Titled "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix," this mod is designed to alleviate CPU bottlenecks, unstable frame times, and stuttering during open-world traversal, while preserving visual features such as Nanite, Lumen, virtual shadow maps, and draw distance.
LTSharpe stated that they lacked professional development experience and relied on Claude Opus 5.5 for approximately two and a half weeks of reverse engineering, performance profiling, and optimization, ultimately incorporating around 40 engine-level adjustments into the mod. Identified issues included the sun and moon lighting system being rebuilt every frame, redundant memory allocations, excessive single-thread dependence in DirectX 12 command preparation, and world streaming operations potentially blocking entire frames.
During flight tests over the Imperial City, the average frame rate increased from 72 to 102, the 1% low frames rose from 33 to 45, and the number of stutters exceeding 50 milliseconds dropped from 19.5 per session to 4.8; in the Shivering Isles scene, the average frame rate climbed from 64 to 91. These tests were primarily conducted using a Ryzen 7 5800X and a Radeon RX 9070 XT, and it remains unverified whether other hardware configurations will achieve similar performance gains.
