IGN Hands-On with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2: Reduced Graphics but Stable 30 FPS in Campaign

IGN played the Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and compared it with the PC version. While the Switch 2 version shows a noticeable drop in visual fidelity, the campaign maintains a stable 30 FPS in docked mode, and the actual gameplay feels smoother than expected.

This is the first mainline entry in the series to launch on a Nintendo console since Call of Duty: Ghosts arrived on the Wii U in 2013. The Switch 2 version is handled by Activision's Digital Legends. During the hands-on demo, it ran in docked mode at 4K resolution and 30 FPS, with the campaign frame rate locked at 30 FPS.

When viewed side-by-side with the PC version, the Switch 2 version has fewer texture details, with noticeably simplified scene surfaces and character faces. Some characters even have a smooth, clay-like appearance. However, even during intense story sequences filled with explosions and action, the demo showed no obvious stuttering or lag, keeping core controls responsive and smooth.

The multiplayer mode targets 60 FPS, but there are no comprehensive test results yet. Current assessments are based only on a few campaign missions. The Switch 2 version still shows significant visual differences compared to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions, and its performance across the full game and various scenarios remains to be further tested.
