A U.S. federal court in California has approved Denuvo's limited data requests to Discord, Reddit, and Valve in an attempt to confirm the true identity of Voices38. This approval does not mean their identity has been exposed, nor does it imply that the platforms have handed over user data.
Denuvo alleges that one Discord account, one Reddit account, and seven Steam profiles are associated with Voices38, and accuses this unidentified defendant of bypassing Anti-Tamper protection in dozens of games.
Denuvo initially requested that Valve provide account registration details, names, billing addresses, payment methods, transaction histories, timestamped IP addresses, device identifiers, and linked accounts, while also asking Discord and Reddit to provide server roles, posts, comments, and community participation data. Judge Heywood S. Gilliam Jr. deemed this scope excessive for identifying anonymous defendants at this stage.
Denuvo submitted a reduced version on October 14, removing payment and purchase records, messages and post content, as well as some login and activity data, retaining only items such as names, existing identification, email addresses, home or work addresses, phone numbers, and IP addresses. The court approved the amended request on October 16, and the three companies may still respond or raise legal objections.
