Tesla Responds to Recall of Nearly 3 Million Vehicles: Owners Do Not Need to Visit Service Centers

Regarding the recall of nearly 3 million Tesla vehicles, Tesla China's official customer service recently responded to the media: This recall involves two types of handling methods. Owners do not need to visit dealerships for all issues; the software portion can be addressed by waiting for the OTA upgrade.

It is understood that this recall involves three identification numbers. Identification number S2026M0098V covers 973,156 domestically produced Model 3 vehicles manufactured between March 4, 2019, and April 29, 2026, and 1,956,713 domestically produced Model Y vehicles manufactured between November 16, 2020, and April 30, 2026;

Identification number S2026M0099V covers a total of 46,041 imported Model 3, Model X, and Model S vehicles. The two batches combined amount to approximately 2.976 million vehicles, with the recall implementation starting on September 25.

The reason for the recall is that the interior emergency mechanical handle is similar in color to the interior trim, making it difficult to identify and operate. In extreme situations, such as a severe collision causing the vehicle's low-voltage system to fail, this may hinder occupants from quickly opening the door to escape and impede rescue efforts by people outside the vehicle, posing a safety hazard.

In addition, identification number S2026M0039I covers another 2,740,642 domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured between March 4, 2019, and December 7, 2025. The reason is that the existing attention monitoring mechanism is insufficient when combined driving assistance is activated. An in-cabin camera monitoring function will be added via OTA update.

Tesla customer service stated that the notifications received by owners fall into two categories. For vehicles receiving the three notifications "Add emergency door handle label," "Update vehicle software to add post-crash window lowering strategy," and "Update vehicle software to improve driver attention detection function," simply wait for the OTA push to complete for the software portion;

For vehicles involving the emergency door handle label, owners can visit any service center during maintenance or repairs to receive free stickers for application. The relevant stickers are expected to be distributed to service centers by the end of September. The application period will last for three years, during which owners can collect them. Vehicles already equipped with warning labels do not need to have stickers applied again. For vehicles that only received notifications for two software updates, simply wait for the OTA update to complete; no other action is required.
