Plans for this sequel began shortly after the release of the previous film, with Jackson initially slated to take over directing duties from Steven Spielberg. However, there was little noticeable progress for many years. Jackson's recent confirmation of it as his next directorial work provides a new signal of momentum for the project, although there is currently no information regarding the start of filming, casting, distribution arrangements, or release dates.

The first The Adventures of Tintin film, released in 2011, was directed by Steven Spielberg with Jackson serving as producer. Centered on the reporter Tintin, Snowy, and Captain Haddock's quest to find a sunken ship's treasure, the movie utilized motion capture technology and featured a cast including Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, and Daniel Craig.

At the same event, Jackson also provided updates on other projects: filming for Hunt for Gollum is nearing completion, while Shadows of the Past remains in the scriptwriting phase. What can be confirmed at this stage is that the screenplay for The Adventures of Tintin sequel is finished, but official production has not yet been announced.
