"Final Fantasy VII Rebirth" Hard Mode Available from First Playthrough with Redesigned Mechanics

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will have Hard Mode available from the very start of the game, without requiring players to first complete the main story. Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the development team did not simply carry over the rules from the previous two titles, but instead reimagined the high-difficulty experience based on this game's new design.

Both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth require players to complete a lengthy main story before they can challenge Hard Mode. Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, however, allows players who prefer high-pressure combat to select this difficulty right from their first playthrough.

The game opens up the Gaia world relatively early in the progression. Once Cloud and his party obtain the airship, they can travel to certain high-difficulty battle locations without restrictions, even if they are not yet prepared for the fights. This exploration structure also prompted the team to adjust the original difficulty design.

After completing the main story, the game will offer various endgame content and additional challenges, no longer relying solely on New Game+ Hard Mode to extend gameplay. The launch version will also include a Dynamic Mode similar to that in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, keeping battles consistently challenging and allowing difficulty adjustments for various minigames.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will be released on April 8, 2027, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
