The GTA VI release trailer garnered 47 million views on YouTube within three days of going live, surpassing the approximately 34 million views accumulated by the Grand Theft Auto V equivalent trailer over roughly 13 years. Based on these figures, the new trailer averaged about 175 plays per second during its first 72 hours.
At the time the statistics were released, GTA VI was about a month away from its planned November launch. These figures reflect the attention the game received before release, but do not directly represent its post-launch sales performance.
For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, with its release trailer continuing to accumulate views over time. The game has sold more than 230 million copies over the years, remaining popular more than a decade after release; the predecessor's long-term commercial performance and players' years of anticipation for the sequel also form the backdrop to the current hype surrounding the new title.
However, the two videos were released in different eras, and the size of YouTube's user base and the media landscape have changed, so view counts are not a direct comparison under equal conditions.
