In Whispers in the Fog, players take on the role of Adrian, who travels to the lost town of "Whispers" in search of his missing brother. The investigation leads from damp highways and an old gas station into dark woods and empty streets; as the fog thickens, strange figures begin to appear among the trees, and Adrian hears a familiar voice with no discernible source.
The game focuses on exploration, clue gathering, and uncovering the town's dark past. Players must stray from the main path to find hidden rooms and lost items, reading notes, examining photos, and inspecting objects left behind by residents. Different clues gradually reveal the experiences of the locals, helping players trace why they disappeared and where Adrian's brother went. Players can also use a flashlight to illuminate dark rooms, store key items in their inventory, find keys, crack codes, and solve puzzles to open new paths.
