Journalist Jason Schreier shared some development details about GTA VI: the game's streets have been designed to be narrower than those in GTA V since early development, accommodating denser traffic; the number of weapons players can carry may also be limited.
This information comes from a video in which Schreier recounts his visit to Rockstar's Scotland headquarters. Art director Aaron Garbut explained that changes in road scale and traffic flow affect not only visuals but also building density, urban structure, and vehicle movement. Compared to the wide roads in Los Santos that facilitate high-speed traversal, the new design may increase the pressure of driving in congested areas and during police chases, requiring players to choose their routes more carefully.
Senior developer Rob Nelson stated that the team wants the weapon-carrying mechanics to be more similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. Characters will no longer be able to carry a nearly unlimited number of weapons at all times; players will need to choose their loadout based on the current situation.
The team once worried that empty slots in the traditional weapon wheel would constantly remind players which firearms they couldn't carry. Developers spent months, possibly even years, testing alternative menus and removing the wheel entirely, but ultimately decided to keep the original wheel while limiting carried equipment. The above information is based on the journalist's account of communications with the studio, not an official announcement from Rockstar; specific designs still await confirmation through official materials or the final product.
