Open-source launcher Xodus Nexus attempts to run Xbox games on SteamOS and Linux

The open-source launcher Xodus Nexus is attempting to allow users to install and run Xbox PC games and Xbox Game Pass games on SteamOS and other Linux environments. The project includes a graphical interface for browsing the Xbox store and managing game installation and launching.

Xodus Nexus is a fork of the open-source project Xodus. The original solution relied on a reverse-engineered runtime and Valve's Proton compatibility layer, with game installation and management primarily handled via command line; the new branch uses a modified Nexus runtime and backend, lowering the barrier to entry with a graphical interface.

According to the features listed on the project's GitHub page, users can install and run games they have purchased or have access to through Game Pass. For supported titles, the launcher also provides Xbox account login and cloud saves, along with download and installation queues, management of VC++ and other prerequisites, and DualSense controller compatibility mode.

The launcher has a built-in "Add to Steam" feature that can automatically generate artwork and shortcuts. The function for navigating the interface using standard controller layouts is currently in an experimental stage. Xodus Nexus is a third-party open-source project, not an official Game Pass client from Microsoft for Linux; its game compatibility, account login performance, and operational stability still need to be verified against project documentation and specific titles.
