Brandon Stirrup, who is responsible for Xbox business strategy, publicly stated that Xbox is using AI and showcased a simple game sample he completed over the weekend. He mentioned that he had never made video games before and spent about three hours of active work to complete this sample.
Stirrup used Unreal Engine and MCP during the production process. He also released a screen recording showing the agent continuously testing, observing the results, and making repeated adjustments. According to him, the latency or stuttering seen in the footage was caused by the agent taking screenshots to check the runtime effects.
Based on this experiment, Stirrup suggested that games can be created through simple prompts and envisioned that if two more people were to invest a year, the scale of the outcome could continue to expand. However, this demonstration was just an experimental sample completed individually and cannot directly prove the costs or final quality required for a full commercial game.
Stirrup believes that because players generally have a negative attitude towards AI, some game industry managers are reluctant to discuss related practices openly, but users should understand the actual situation. He expressed willingness to bear the consequences of speaking out publicly and hopes that other Xbox employees using AI no longer need to avoid this topic.
Different use cases may also trigger different attitudes: using AI to automatically handle repetitive and tedious tasks is relatively easier to gain acceptance, while using it to replace developers responsible for creative work such as storytelling and art is more likely to face opposition. The currently disclosed content represents Stirrup's personal stance and demonstration, not Microsoft's complete AI development policy.
