The original Xbox action game Ninja Gaiden Black now has an unofficial native port for Windows and Linux. The project statically recompiles and pre-converts the game code to run directly on PC, using a custom Vulkan renderer without the need to emulate the Xbox GPU.
The project was updated to version 0.9.19 on October 18, restoring particle effects such as sparks and dust, while attempting to fix water ripple display issues on NVIDIA graphics cards. The current version targets a stable 60 FPS, supporting up to 10x internal resolution, MSAA, anisotropic filtering, improved shadows, and aspect ratios of 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9.
Features include full keyboard and mouse support, key remapping, cutscene skipping, and additional in-game settings. Pre-built versions are available for Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux, with an AppImage version optimized for Steam Deck. Initial feedback indicates that the game runs stably at 60 FPS on Steam Deck, offering significantly smoother performance than running it through Xemu.
The project is still in pre-release. The developer has not yet confirmed whether the game can be completed from start to finish, and there are still some graphical and technical issues. The port does not include game data; users must own the original Xbox version and provide the necessary files themselves.
