On October 20, the Esports Foundation unveiled the new EWC 2027 qualification initiative, the "EWC Qualifier Program," incorporating more existing tournaments and regional community competitions into the official "Road to EWC" advancement network. Organizers plan to host over 400 related events in 2027, attracting approximately 1.8 million participants, giving competitors the chance to vie for Esports World Cup slots from local venues all the way up.
The program features two pathways. The "EWC Direct Qualifiers" allow eligible existing esports tournaments to integrate directly into the EWC main event qualification system, while retaining their own branding as well as original fundraising and operational methods.
The "EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers" are open to regional tournament organizers, associations, internet cafes, universities, esports facilities, and gaming festivals. Winners will earn a spot in the following summer's final qualifiers and receive assistance with accommodation and visas. All related events must comply with publisher and EWC requirements regarding rules, anti-cheat measures, refereeing, and result certification.
The initial titles for the Satellite LCQ include Chess, Counter-Strike 2, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6, with more titles to be added later. Applications for the 2027 season are now open until December 20, 2026, and approved tournaments must conclude by June 1, 2027. Details on Direct Qualifiers partners, game lineup, and slot allocations will be announced at a later date.
