Leviathan's Lair is a retro turn-based role-playing game featuring a meticulously hand-drawn pixel world
Deck13 Spotlight is proud to announce Leviathan's Lair. This retro RPG is developed by the talented teams at Nostalgic Realms and Whiskybarrel Studios. Two independent developers have joined forces to create this dream project, drawing direct inspiration from timeless classics such as Ultima, Pool of Radiance, and the early Baldur's Gate series.
Two developers, one shared quest
Over the past few decades, RPGs have gradually lost their essence. Once, the true spirit of RPGs lay in exploration and crafting your own adventure story: immersing yourself in compelling side quests, forming adventuring parties, and experiencing well-balanced turn-based combat. Vast worlds awaited exploration at your own pace, with handcrafted dungeons and towns brimming with detail and life. It allowed players to build worlds in their minds, rather than relying solely on flashy effects. Game maps invited you to forge your own path, instead of being pushed along by task markers to complete checklist-style objectives.
This is the core aspiration of Leviathan's Lair. We aim to recapture the charm RPGs once held, rediscovering that indescribable magic gradually lost over time. Inspired by legendary series like Ultima and Pool of Radiance, and blending elements from early Baldur's Gate titles, the game is presented in stunning pixel art, as shown in the official announcement trailer. Come enjoy this carefully crafted debut trailer!
