About a week after the release of Planet Zoo 2, Steam user reviews have shown a clear divide. Among the 2,540 reviews collected at the time, approximately 60% were positive and 40% were negative, resulting in an overall rating of "Mixed."
The game holds a Metacritic score of 85, which is 4 points higher than Planet Zoo. However, the trend in Steam reviews is less optimistic: in the first few days after launch, the ratio of positive to negative reviews was about three to one, but over the following six days it gradually approached one to one, with recent negative feedback increasing.
Some players criticized changes to convenience features, but negative reviews focused more on bugs. Players reported that numerous issues made the current gameplay experience frustrating. Reported problems included animals teleporting, fish being crated for no apparent reason, protesters complaining about empty habitats, and monkeys exhibiting abnormal jumping behavior.
Similar complaints have appeared in the Planet Zoo community, which has created dedicated tags for sequel criticism and bug reports. A video showing a character spinning violently inside a water facility was described by its uploader as "completely unplayable," but this represents only some players' subjective opinions and does not mean the game is unrunnable for all users. Currently, there is no specific timeline for fixes.
