Hunter Schafer, the transgender actress from the HBO series Euphoria, revealed in an interview with ELLE magazine that she underwent bottom gender-affirming surgery last December. The report explains that such surgeries alter a person's genitals to align with their gender identity.
The 27-year-old Schafer said she was very satisfied with the surgical experience and likes her post-operative body. She talked about how she had long accepted a more fluid aspect of her gender expression and had hoped to try coexisting with her previous physical state; ultimately, however, she felt that completing her transition through medical means was the right choice for her.
She also emphasized that every transgender person is different, and her decisions and feelings do not represent everyone's experience. During her recovery, Schafer rented a larger apartment where friends and family came to visit. Since she needed to remain lying down after the surgery, she said she could walk no more than 150 steps a day at the time.
Schafer also reflected on the changes since joining Euphoria: the series premiered in 2019, and she described herself as still being like a child when she was first cast, different in many ways from who she is now. At the time, she was quite introverted and hadn't decided to perform in front of others; now, the "shell" that once wrapped around her no longer exists.

But she said that after "going through that journey and finding myself," she now feels "more neutral" about her gender identity. Schafer said, "I'm a woman. I'm a girl."
The 27-year-old actress rose to fame for her role as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn in the HBO series Euphoria, which also stars Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney.
Schafer stated that she has changed significantly since first appearing in Euphoria (which premiered in 2019). She described herself as "just a kid" back then, adding, "I'm different in so many ways now. I was very introverted and didn't want to perform in front of people at all. I used to be confined by a shell, but that's gone now."
She previously dated Spanish pop singer Rosalía and her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike, but she stated, "The longest relationship I've ever had didn't last more than two years. I've heard that after two years, a relationship feels more like a partnership than a passionate romance. It feels more sacred and meaningful."
