Movie 'The Backrooms' to Stream on HBO Max on September 25; Extended Version Unconfirmed

According to ComicBook, the 2026 horror film "The Backrooms" is confirmed to launch on HBO Max on September 25. It remains unclear which version of the film will be provided, with the main uncertainty being whether the approximately 15 minutes of additional content from the theatrical re-release will be fully included.

"The Backrooms" premiered this past May and ran in theaters for several weeks. The original cut was subsequently released on digital platforms. In July, the filmmakers launched a re-release titled "The Backrooms: Everythinggj Must Disappear," bringing the film back to cinemas.

The re-release features new footage personally added by director Kane Parsons, totaling approximately 15 minutes. Since the re-release was shown exclusively in theaters, not all viewers had the opportunity to see this additional content.

Parsons confirmed in July that these new scenes would be released separately on YouTube shortly thereafter. The videos are still available for viewing and have amassed approximately 3.3 million views, allowing audiences who missed the theatrical re-release to watch these segments at home.

Once "The Backrooms" launches on HBO Max, subscribers will be able to watch the film directly. However, it remains unconfirmed whether the platform will offer the original cut or "The Backrooms: Everythinggj Must Disappear," which includes the new content.

Currently, the newly added footage remains available as standalone videos on YouTube, separate from the original cut already on digital platforms. Previously, the extended version had only a brief theatrical run; other reports indicate that the new content from this version was included as bonus material in certain physical releases.
