To coincide with the release of the film Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Rivals has launched a series of events called "Path of Doom," paying homage to classic moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). These events and modes cover all major Avengers films, including PvP battle modes, such as the recently launched "Avengers: Infinity War" event this season. However, the latest "Path of Doom" event is perhaps the largest yet for this hero shooter, giving players the chance to participate in the final battle against Thanos from Avengers: Endgame.
The first "Path of Doom" event was built around the Avengers, allowing players to take on the roles of the original Avengers team from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in an asymmetric battle: one team against a single player-controlled, super-powered Loki. Later, this event evolved into a large-scale PvE mode based on Avengers: Age of Ultron, where players fought against Ultron's drone army before finally challenging Ultron himself. These events typically introduced fun new cosmetic items, giving specific characters iconic looks from the MCU films, along with rewards like in-game currency to help players unlock these skins.
The "Avengers: Endgame" mode in Marvel Rivals allows up to 50 players to team up and fight Thanos in a PvE scenario
The Avengers: Endgame event is one of the largest events in Marvel Rivals' history, even surpassing the 36-player 18v18 match mode introduced in previous seasons. The hero shooter's Endgame mode allows 50 players to gather at the ruins of the Avengers Compound from Avengers: Endgame, the very place where the Avengers fought their final battle against Thanos after time-traveling to collect the Infinity Stones. Just like in the movie, players will engage in a desperate struggle against Thanos's massive army amidst the compound's ruins, with Thanos himself leading his forces into battle.
According to the release trailer for Marvel Rivals' "Endgame" mode (launching on October 23, 2026), Thanos appears to have been crafted into an extremely powerful enemy. Thanos is towering in stature and possesses giant-like health pools, similar to other PvE bosses in previous Marvel Rivals modes. Like Zombie Scarlet Witch in the "Marvel Zombies" PvE mode and Kingpin in the "Blood Hunt" PvE mode, Thanos likely wields devastating attacks and skills capable of instantly eliminating teammates.
Thanos wields the double-bladed weapon he used against Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor in Avengers: Endgame, and he seems to acquire the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones at some point during the Endgame match. Players must then face hordes of Thanos's minions as well as the Mad Titan himself. Thanos uses wide sweeping attacks to eliminate enemies on the ground and in the air. At certain points, Thanos even summons his massive spaceship to rain down laser fire on the ground, causing significant area-of-effect damage. This will undoubtedly be a highly challenging mode; although 50 players are on the same team, Thanos's high damage output and the sheer number of enemies will quickly put players on the defensive.
With no character restrictions, Endgame becomes the most free-flowing path to the Doomsday event yet
Besides marking the first appearance of Thanos in the Marvel Rivals series, one reason the Endgame mode is so exciting is that it removes many of the restrictions present in previous "Path of Doom" modes. The Age of Ultron, Avengers, and even Infinity War modes limited the characters players could choose, primarily restricting them to those featured in the MCU films. For example, while players could choose Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Hulk in the Age of Ultron PvE mode, they could not select Daredevil, Moon Knight, or White Fox. In contrast, the Endgame mode seems to make all characters in the game immediately available.
This gives players greater freedom when fighting Thanos, even though it lacks some of the character enhancement features found in other "Doomsday Path" modes. Other PvE modes, such as "Blood Hunt," allow players to add new skills to specific characters through progressive upgrades, a feature also present in the PvP "Infinity War" mode. The trade-off for this mode seems to be that players can use all characters from Marvel Rivals. Endgame does not provide any path for character progression, instead relying on the novelty of massive numbers of players gathering to fight Thanos.
