Keanu Reeves is reportedly in talks to join Paramount Pictures' American remake of The Gangster, the Cop, the Killer, with James Wan set to direct. Reeves' specific role has not yet been confirmed, and casting discussions are still ongoing.
The film will retain the core premise of the 2019 South Korean original:
After surviving an attack by a serial killer, a gangster seeks revenge and forms an alliance with a detective pursuing justice through legal means. Though their goals align, their motives differ. Ma Dong-seok will reprise his role as the gangster, originally named Jang Dong-soo in the 2019 original, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
The latest script for the film was written by Eric Pearson, with Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland having worked on earlier versions. Sylvester Stallone will also serve as a producer. The project has been in development since 2019 and is currently scheduled to begin production in April 2027.
James Wan previously directed films such as Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, Furious 7, and Aquaman. Reeves has portrayed law enforcement officers in Speed, Point Break, and Street Kings, and played a serial killer in The Watcher.
Paramount has not yet announced a release date for the American remake of The Gangster, the Cop, the Killer.
