From This Month Until Next January? Xbox Reportedly to Continue Cutting 3,200 Jobs

Sources indicate that Xbox layoffs are not yet over, with further job cuts potentially scheduled for this month, November, and next January. The overall plan involves 3,200 positions, with some details possibly disclosed in the coming days.

Reports concerning Xbox CEO Asha Sharma mention that she has cut 1,868 positions since taking office. The studios, regions, or specific functions affected by subsequent layoffs have not yet been announced, so it is not yet possible to determine which teams will be impacted.

This round of layoffs is set against the backdrop of Microsoft's gaming business restructuring. Halo-related operations are currently overseen by Activision, while teams like Obsidian have been integrated into the Bethesda structure. Several Microsoft-owned development studios are also creating games for the PS5. Questions remain about whether franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls might return to console-exclusive strategies in the future, and whether Game Pass will undergo a comprehensive restructuring.

Journalist Sebastian Herrera reported that multiple current and former employees believe Xbox may be exploring options such as a final sale, spin-off, external investment, or conversion into a subsidiary. He stated that shortly after Sharma took office, related proposals were presented. These remain employee assessments and potential options; Microsoft has not been confirmed to have decided on selling or spinning off Xbox. The clearer information at present is the phased continuation of layoffs, with plans to cut 3,200 positions.
